PRESS RELEASE

State Attorney finds Titusville Police shooting on Feb. 7 was lawful use of force

State Attorney William Scheiner explained in a June 10 letter to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (below) that Titusville Police officers’ use of deadly force was “lawful and justified” when they shot and killed Trimarea R. Charles, 25, the night of Feb. 7, 2025. As the letter explains, Charles started a violent confrontation with one police officer, picked up a handgun he had dropped, then ran, armed, toward another officer and a neighboring home. It was during these actions that the first officer unholstered his weapon, gave chase, and fired shots at him. Titusville Police had gone to the location, a house on Robbins Avenue, after receiving reports from frightened neighbors over several days about shots fired there.
