October 9, 2006 "Silent Witnesses" Give Testimony to Domestic Violence

The victims of domestic violence homicides will be remembered Sunday, Oct. 15, during a presentation in Cocoa by The Silent Witness National Initiative of Florida, Brevard Chapter, at Brevard Community College.

The two-hour program begins at 2 p.m. in Building 3, the Clark Maxwell Jr. Lifelong Learning Center and is open to the public.

Life-sized cut-outs of Brevard victims will be escorted to the stage and their stories will be told. Through the words of their family members or others who have cared for the victims, their silence will end and their stories will be voiced, organizers said.

The Silent Witness National Initiative is an international organization giving voice to those silenced by domestic violence homicide. The group wants to increase awareness of domestic violence homicides and advocate on behalf of the survivors and victims.

Serene Harbor, University of Central Florida, the Brevard County State Attorney’s Office and a number of other community groups are working together on the program. Anyone interested in more information or participating may contact: Carlleen M. Cairns at 321-638-3971.
