February 27, 2006 Brevard County Grand Jury Issues Indictment Against Clarence Tarez Thomas

A Brevard County Grand Jury issued an indictment charging 17-year-old Clarence Tarez Thomas with first-degree premeditated murder and robbery with a firearm while inflicting great bodily harm in connection with the January 24 shooting death of Christy Madison-Sanford. Thomas is being charged as an adult in the crime, said Assistant State Attorney Michael Hunt.

The 45-year-old Canaveral Groves woman was shot outside a home in Cocoa on A Street.

Thomas, who was arrested by Cocoa police three days after the shooting, has been held at the Brevard County Juvenile Detention Center, but is scheduled to make a first appearance on the charge at the Brevard County Jail on Wednesday at 1:15 p.m.

The grand jury heard from two law enforcement witnesses and nine lay witnesses before returning with the indictment shortly before 5:00 p.m.
