May 15, 2018 - Brevard Grand Jury Issues Indictment in West Melbourne Infant Murders

Today (May 15) the Brevard County Grand Jury issued an indictment charging RACHAEL LYNN THOMAS, 30 with two (2) counts of First Degree Premeditated Murder for the deaths of her two (2) newborn infant children. The murders were discovered on April 15th, 2018 at THOMAS's home located at 138 Laurel Oak Street, West Melbourne, FL.

THOMAS was also indicted for two (2) counts of Aggravated Child Abuse (F-1) and one (1) count of Tampering with Physical Evidence (F-2).

The murders were discovered after THOMAS called 911 to report a single newborn child that wasn’t breathing. However, West Melbourne Police later discovered a second deceased newborn child at the home. Initially held on charges of Child Neglect, THOMAS was subsequently implicated in the death of both children and arrested for Murder on April 18th, 2018.

The Grand Jury heard testimony from the Brevard County Medical Examiner, along with a West Melbourne Criminal Investigator and Brevard County Sheriff's Crime Scene Investigator, before returning with the indictments. No trial date has been set and THOMAS's next court appearance is scheduled for May 16th, 2018 - 1:15 PM at the Brevard County Jail.

THOMAS remains in custody on No Bond
