October 9, 2018 - Seminole Grand Jury Issues Indictments in Sanford Shooting Death

Today (Oct 9) the Seminole County Grand Jury issued murder and firearms indictments in connection with the September 8, 2018 shooting death of Derek Williams (24) at "Momma Coots" bar, 1013 Historic Goldboro Blvd. in Sanford, FL.

CARL RUFFIN JR, (23) was indicted for First Degree Premeditated Murder with a Firearm (CF).  ORNIE L. HENDERSON, (25) was indicted for Principle to First Degree Premeditated Murder (LF) and Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon (F2).

A Sanford police officer patrolling near the bar, heard multiple gun shots while several cars were seen speeding from the area. Responding officers then discovered Williams deceased at the scene. A subsequent investigation identified witnesses who observed a fight between the victim Williams and HENDERSON. Minutes later the witnesses identified both HENDERSON and RUFFIN JR. holding firearms and shooting at Williams.

The Grand Jury heard testimony from a Sanford Police investigator, and seven (7) lay witnesses before issuing the indictments. Both men were previously arrested and remain in custody at the Seminole County Jail on NO BOND. Their next court appearance is arraignment scheduled before Judge Melanie Chase, Tuesday October 30th, 2018 - 1:30 PM, at the Seminole County Criminal Justice Center.
