May 16, 2019 - Woman "Look Out" Found Guilty in 2016 Seminole Business Burglaries

Yesterday (May 15), a Seminole County Jury found Anastasia MARCUS (23), guilty of two (2) counts of Burglary (F3), two (2) counts of Criminal Mischief (M1), and one (1) count of Petit Theft (M1), for her role as a "look out" in the break in of two businesses on December 29, 2016.

While on routine patrol, a Seminole County deputy spotted a running car stopped in front of Gator's Dockside Grill, located at 3030 E. SR 436 in Apopka, at just after 3:00 am. When he approached, the deputy saw the front door of the business shattered and heard MARCUS, who was inside the car, yell out "Get out, Get out, Police are here!" Three men in dark clothing were seen inside, however they ran out the back door. A helicopter and K-9 search did not locate them. Deputies also discovered a burglary to Cafe' Positano, located in the same building. Items from that business were later recovered from the car MARCUS was arrested in.

MARCUS gave conflicting accounts to investigators, first denying any involvement and later admitting to acting as a "look out" for two other men who broke into the businesses while giving her a ride. After a day long trial in which MARCUS did not testify, the jury returned with the guilty verdicts.

MARCUS will be sentenced by Judge John Galluzzo on June 5, 2019 at 9:00 am in Courtroom 5A. MARCUS faces a maximum sentence of five (5) years in each of the burglaries, and up to one (1) year for each of the misdemeanor convictions.
