January 15, 2020 - Brevard Grand Jury Indicts Da’rius CHRISTIAN in First Degree Premeditated Murder of Half Sister

Today (Jan 15) the Brevard County Grand Jury indicted Da'rius CHRISTIAN (22), for First Degree Premeditated Murder (CF), in connection to the death of his half-sister J'Meisha Gant (19), at 221 Ligustrum Lane in Merritt Island in November 2019.

On November 3, 2019, just after 4:00 pm, Brevard County Deputies responded to the Ligustrum Lane apartment where Gant's body had been discovered by her mother. The Medical Examiner determined the cause of death as homicide by strangulation.

The subsequent investigation established that Gant had been at home alone with CHRISTIAN on the evening and early morning hours of November 2-3, 2019. During that time, a physical altercation occurred where CHRISTIAN strangled the victim causing her death. An arrest warrant was issued for CHRISTIAN who was taken into custody on December 19, 2019, and held without bond at the Brevard County Jail.

The Grand Jury heard testimony from the Brevard County Medical Examiner, a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office crime scene investigator, and a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office homicide investigator before issuing the indictment. CHRISTIAN will remain at the Brevard County Jail on NO BOND.

Arraignment was waived after CHRISTIAN's attorney filed a Notice of Appearance and Not Guilty plea. The case is assigned to Circuit Judge Kelly Jo McKibben.
