March 13, 2006 Operation Cease-Fire Response Team and Community Members Walk Cocoa Streets

An Operation Cease-Fire Response team and members of community agencies with gather today at 4 p.m. at the Zion Orthodox Primitive Baptist Church, 715 S. Fiske Blvd.

After receiving handout material, the groups will be walking an area which was the scene of a shooting death last week.

The purpose of the State Attorney's Office Response Team action is to remind community members that Operation Cease-Fire is active in their community and will consider the suspects in the shooting for inclusion in a joint federal and state program which may result in quicker convictions, longer sentences, and no chance of parole or bond. The teams will also be reminding residents to provide information about the crime and other recent gun incidents to Cocoa Police or the appropriate law enforcement agency.

The Response Team's members include advocates, investigators, and attorneys from the State Attorney's Office as well as Cocoa Police officers, and members of the Brevard County Weed and Seed. Churches and other community groups active in the area will be joining the response teams in a combined effort to make a positive statement that the community is opposed to gun violence.
