September 21, 2009 Brevard Grand Jury Issues Murder Indictment In Palm Bay Slaying

The Brevard County Grand Jury returned an indictment today (Sept. 15) charging Rene Osvaldo Cruz Colon, 23, with the July 16 first-degree felony murder with a firearm and carjacking with a firearm of Sailly Cervantes-Femenias.

The defendant has been held without bond in the Brevard County Jail since his arrest Sept. 2 following extradition from Puerto Rico, said Assistant State Attorney Michael Hunt. Ms. Cervantes-Femenias, 24, was shot outside her apartment at 6400 Woodlake Drive, Palm Bay, as she returned home from work in the early morning hours of July 16.

The Grand Jury heard from two Palm Bay police detectives and two lay witnesses before returning the indictment. Cruz Colon is scheduled for a court appearance tomorrow on the Grand Jury charges at the Brevard County Jail.
