PRESS RELEASE

Suspects indicted, charged for December murder outside Sanford Best Buy store

The Seminole County Grand Jury has indicted two of the three suspects in the December shooting death of Terance Pope Jr. outside a Sanford Best Buy store. The third has been charged separately by the State Attorney’s Office.

KHALIL HUNTER, 22, and JAMES NELSON III, 22, were indicted by the grand jury Feb. 11 on charges of first-degree felony murder and robbery with a firearm.

A third suspect, SHUNAVIOUS DORSEY, 23, was charged by the State Attorney’s Office Feb. 12 with being an accessory after the fact to a capital felony, tampering with evidence, and grand theft of a firearm.

Police investigators say the three men drove to a meetup at the shopping center, arranged over text messages between Pope and HUNTER, the night of Dec. 17.  Pope, 21, was expecting a deal in which HUNTER and DORSEY would buy two iPhones at a nearby Verizon store, then turn them over to Pope for cash, arrest reports say.

Instead, the deal soured, and Hunter shot Pope during a confrontation. DORSEY grabbed a gun Pope had brought, and the trio fled the parking lot in HUNTER’s gray Volkswagen Jetta, driven by NELSON, who had waited there. The suspects’ movements were captured on store surveillance video.

The three suspects await trial in the John E. Polk Correctional Facility in Seminole County.
