PRESS RELEASE

SCHEINER SWORN IN AS STATE ATTORNEY FOR BREVARD and SEMINOLE COUNTIES

State Attorney William Scheiner was accompanied by his family at dual swearing-in ceremonies in courtrooms in Brevard and Seminole counties.

Taking office as the top prosecutor for the 18th Judicial District, Mr. Scheiner will oversee teams of assistant state attorneys, legal support staff, investigators, victim advocates, witness coordinators and others who handle thousands of felony and misdemeanor cases per year.

“As your state attorney, I promise to do what I believe is right,” Mr. Scheiner told supporters at the Seminole County Criminal Justice Courthouse. “I promise to advocate for victims and pursue justice with fairness and integrity.”

Mr. Scheiner has proudly served the people of the 18th Judicial District since 2008.  Before his election as the State Attorney in 2024, Mr. Scheiner served as chief trial attorney for Brevard County. Earlier roles included felony division chief, Career Criminal and Firearms Unit, Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit, felony trial attorney, misdemeanor trial attorney, and felony early resolution.

He has prosecuted thousands of criminal cases ranging from petit theft to public corruption, drug trafficking to first-degree murder.

“When we all seek to do what is right — and do that while putting our community first and advocating for victims — we will achieve great things,” Mr. Scheiner said. “As prosecutors, we are responsible for representing and protecting this community.  We are the voice for the voiceless, advocates for those who have been harmed, and champions of justice.”

Mr. Scheiner grew up in Titusville, graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2005, and received his law degree from Florida Coastal School of Law in 2007. He is the father of two daughters, whom he describes as “my rocks and inspiration — the strongest people I know.”
