PRESS RELEASE

Brevard chiefs name ASA Rebecca price ‘prosecutor of the year’

Assistant State Attorney Rebecca Price has been named Prosecutor of the Year by the Brevard Association of Chiefs of Police.

Price’s work in 2024 included 12 jury trials that resulted in convictions and prison sentences for defendants charged with such crimes as:

  • Robbery with a firearm, attempted sexual battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
  • Lewd-and-lascivious molestation of a child younger than 12
  • Domestic violence with strangulation, false imprisonment and battery
  • Battery on a person 65 years or older
  • Attempted second-degree murder and aggravated assault.

“My primary goals in this job are to seek justice for victims and protect the community,” Price said. “I can go to sleep at night and know I’ve done something to make Brevard County a safer place to live.”

Price joined the State Attorney’s Office for the 18th Judicial Circuit in November 2019.  Today, she is assigned to its career-criminal and firearms unit where she prosecutes repeat offenders and violent career criminals.  She previously held positions in the office’s misdemeanor trial division, felony trial division, and sex crimes and child abuse unit.

Price said she “feels it’s important to get law enforcement officers’ perspectives on different crimes to better understand how we can help each other in our respective roles.”  She especially likes helping early-career officers learn to become effective witnesses in court.

State Attorney William Scheiner said, “Rebecca stands out for her zealous advocacy and unwavering willingness to be the voice for victims and law enforcement in the courtroom.”
