PRESS RELEASE

Brevard Grand Jury Indicts Edrick DAVIS in Murder of Infant Son

Yesterday (July 9), a Brevard Grand Jury indicted Edrick DAVIS (25), on one (1) count of First-Degree Felony Murder (CF), and one count (1) of Aggravated Child Abuse with Great Bodily Harm (F1), in connection to the death of Edrick Davis Jr. (infant), in Melbourne.

On June 10, 2024, Melbourne Police responded to a 9-11 call of an infant not breathing at a residence on Mount Carmel Lane. Paramedics found 6-week-old Davis Jr. unresponsive and transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The Brevard Medical Examiner later ruled the death a homicide due to multiple incidents of blunt force trauma.

A subsequent investigation determined that Davis Jr. had suffered his fatal injuries while in the sole care and custody of his father, Edrick DAVIS, and evidence of prior healing injuries indicated this was not the only incident of abuse during the child’s short life. An arrest warrant was issued, and DAVIS was taken into custody on June 20, 2024, and held on No Bond in the Brevard County Jail.

The Grand Jury heard testimony from a Melbourne Police Criminal Investigator and the Associate Brevard County Medical Examiner.

No trial date has been set in this case. Please consult the Brevard Clerk of Courts website for updates on future court appearances by this defendant.
