A Sanford man who struck and killed a motorcyclist on S.R. 46 then did a U-turn and mowed down a Good Samaritan has been convicted of two counts of DUI manslaughter and two counts vehicular homicide.
MICHAEL KRAFT, 40, faces a combined sentence of 120 years in prison after a Seminole County jury found him guilty March 7 of killing Vincent Russo, 73, and Jenica Campbell, 39, in March 2021. The jury also convicted Kraft of two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
KRAFT did not deny causing the deaths but claimed he was insane at the time.
However, Assistant State Attorneys Stewart Stone, Rich Coln and Sarah Mian presented results of KRAFT’s blood tests and police video of his field sobriety tests to make the case that KRAFT was delusional from abusing methamphetamine — and responsible for his actions.
“There’s something mentally wrong with him, but that’s not what makes someone legally insane,” Stone told jurors. “Mr. Kraft knew exactly the consequences of his actions.”

Multiple witnesses including first responders reported watching KRAFT’S Jaguar sedan barrel over the median of S.R. 46 near Summerlin Avenue then ram into Campbell where she had stopped to tend to Russo, the motorcyclist.
“It was that act of caring and concern by Jenica that cost her her life,” Stone told jurors.
After knocking Campbell through the air, KRAFT continued driving, ran over her again, crashed through a fence to Orlando Sanford International Airport and turned onto a service road. Police trailed him until he stalled in a ditch, then pulled him from his car.
After a four-day trial, he jury deliberated for 45 minutes before finding Kraft guilty as charged.
Circuit Judge Michael Rudisill scheduled sentencing for April 16.
