FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 2, 2013

State Attorney Phil Archer Review of

Officer Involved Shooting Concluded

State Attorney Phil Archer notified the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office today that he had concluded his review of the death of Christopher Mark Greer on Jan. 13. Archer said that the use of deadly force was lawful pursuant to Chapter 776, Florida Statutes.

“This was a tragic event for everyone, however, our review shows neither of the officers’ actions subject them to criminal prosecution,” Archer said.

Brevard Sheriff’s Office Corporal James Haman and Deputy Diomedis Canela shot and killed Greer as he approached them with a knife. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducted an independent analysis of the shooting which the State Attorney’s Office then reviewed.
