October 12, 2021 Veondre AVERY Charged in "Zoom Call" Shooting Death of Shamaya Lynn

On Thursday (Oct 7), Assistant State Attorney Dan Faggard filed a formal Notice of Information charging Veondre AVERY (22) with Manslaughter (F2), and Failure to Securely Store a Firearm (M2) in connection to the shooting death of Shamaya Lynn (21), at the couple's home on August 11, 2021. A court order or capias was then issued for his arrest.

Altamonte Springs Police reported that they received info from a witness who had been on a video conference call with Lynn when she suddenly fell backward and was no longer responsive. Patrol officers arrived at the Oaks of Spring Valley Apartments where they discovered AVERY performing CPR on Lynn, who had sustained a single gunshot wound to the head. EMS pronounced Lynn dead at the scene.

In a subsequent investigation, Altamonte Springs Police discovered evidence that a firearm belonging to AVERY, had been left loaded and unsecured in a child's "Paw Patrol" backpack on the floor of the couples bedroom. While AVERY was out of the home, Lynn had been on the video conference call with co-workers. Unknown to her, their 2-year-old child had gotten possession of the firearm, and moved to a position behind Lynn, firing a single shot striking her. Forensic evidence clearly established that the child possessed and independently fired the weapon.

AVERY was arrested on October 12, 2021, by members of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office and Altamonte Springs Police Department, and is being held on No Bond at the Seminole County Jail. No trial date has been set in this case. Please consult the Seminole Clerk of Courts website for updates on future court appearances by this defendant.
