February 14, 2022 - Da'Raveius SMITH Facing Adult Prosecution in Seminole High School Shooting

Today (Feb 14), Judge John Galluzzo signed an Order of Transfer moving the prosecution of Da'Raveius SMITH (16), from the Juvenile Court to the adult Circuit Court. The action came after prosecutors direct filed an Information charging SMITH with one (1) count each of Attempted First Degree Premeditated Murder with a Firearm (F1); Discharge of a Weapon on School Property (F2); and Shooting Into a Building or Vehicle (F2); in connection with the shooting of an eighteen (18) year-old student at Seminole High School on January 19, 2022.

Sanford Police reported SMITH got into an argument with the victim and subsequently obtained a firearm. While at Seminole High School where both are students, SMITH concealed the firearm until observing the victim exit a restroom. SMITH then shot several times at the victim who ran, with SMITH chasing him and continuing to shoot. The victim was hit multiple times and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

SMITH was initially arrested by Sanford PD and held at the Juvenile Detention Center. With today's action, SMITH will be transfered to the Seminole County Jail with No Bond. Please consult the Seminole Clerk of Courts website for updates on future court appearances by this defendant.
