PRESS RELEASE

Port St. John man indicted for murder for shooting girlfriend

The Brevard County Grand Jury has indicted TYJAH JOHN BELLINGER, 23, for first-degree murder for the Nov. 16 shooting death of his girlfriend in Port St. John.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office deputies found the victim, Lendzi Lakeman, dead of multiple gunshot wounds inside a house on Carlowe Avenue. A 911 caller reported hearing three shots and then seeing Bellinger fire more shots inside the house’s open garage before watching the shooter drive off in a blue Kia car. Deputies later arrested Bellinger at a family member’s home in Port St. John.

Bellinger had been in a relationship with Lakeman, 28.

Bellinger had an AR-style pistol, which he fired 12 times. Crime scene investigators found three shell casings in the driveway and seven more in the garage, indicating multiple shots fired from different locations. Bellinger told a relative that he had the firearm, tripped, and the gun went off one time. The firearm was found in Bellinger’s car at the relative’s house.

Bellinger remains held without bond in the Brevard County Jail.
