A Sanford man has been convicted of murder for killing his pregnant girlfriend and her unborn son in a city park after she refused to get an abortion.
A Seminole County jury found DONOVAN L. FAISON, 23, guilty Oct. 27 of first-degree murder for shooting Kaylin Fiengo, 18, as she sat in her car in Coastline Park in Sanford in 2022. The jury also found Faison guilty of killing an unborn child and of burglary for shooting into the vehicle.

Faison now faces a possible death sentence.
At trial, prosecutors Stewart Stone, Domenick Leo and Anna Valentini showed jurors text messages and other digital information recovered by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office from Faison and Fiengo’s mobile phones. That information showed:
- Faison erupted when Fiengo texted him a photo of two positive pregnancy tests. He accused her of lying then texted “Abortion!!!”
- Faison was angry and felt pressured because he was living with another woman who suspected him of cheating.
- In texts with a friend about Fiengo, Faison wrote, “On my brothers grave, I’m gonna crop her out.”
- Faison lured Fiengo to a meeting at Coastline Park the night she was found there, dead in her Nissan Versa from a gunshot to her head.
- Fiengo had told a friend she was going to meet Faison there.
“Phones are an extension of your mind and your body – It’s the reason we can give you clear, convincing evidence,” Leo told jurors during closing arguments. “He said he was going to do it, then he did it. The police got the right guy.”
Circuit Judge Donna Goerner scheduled the death penalty phase of the trial to begin Oct. 29.
