Seminole County prosecutors have convicted two teenagers who killed a man who drove to Sanford to sell them a pair of used headphones in 2024.
A jury found WILLIAM O. SMITH, 19, and DRA’SHAWN D. WILLIAMS, 17, guilty on Nov. 6 of first-degree felony murder and attempted robbery with a firearm following a five-day trial.

The victim, 22-year-old Brandon Leo, had listed the Beats wireless headphones on the OfferUp online marketplace in July 2024 and believed he was participating in a meetup to deliver them. When Leo arrived from Orlando at what turned out to be a vacant home, Smith and Williams moved in to rob him at gunpoint and fired shots as Leo tried to reverse his Toyota pickup truck to escape. The truck crashed into a nearby retention pond, where Leo was found dead from his wounds. Sanford Police recovered seven shell casings and the headphones outside the vacant house.
At trial, Assistant State Attorneys Richard Babcock, Jacob Polk and Cody Vincitore presented evidence that included neighborhood security video, which captured the shooting. They also presented information from the victim and defendants’ cell phones and online accounts that ultimately connected Smith and Williams to the crime.
Although Smith was 17 years old and Williams was 15 at the time of the shooting, the State Attorney’s Office charged both as adults due to the severity of the crime.
Smith and Williams now face sentences of life in prison (with a possible review after 25 years because they were younger than 18 at the time of the offense). Their sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 13.
