Additional Consumer Resources

The following is a list of additional agencies that may be able to assist you with your particular complaint:

Better Business Bureau: You may be able to obtain some help with your consumer complaint by contacting the local Better Business Bureau at 1-800-275-6614 or (407) 621-3300. This will sometimes encourage a business to resolve your complaint in order to preserve its business reputation.

U.S. Postmaster: If you have a complaint about something you received in the mail, or you used the mail to conduct a transaction, you may want to file a complaint with your local postmaster. They may investigate the matter and refer it for criminal and/or civil prosecution.

National Fraud Information Center: If the business is out of state or possibly regulated by a federal agency, you may want to contact the National Fraud Information Center at 1-800-876-7060. They can provide you with the appropriate federal agency phone number and information on current fraudulent schemes.

Identity Theft Resources and credit reporting companies : Identity theft (where someone uses your identity to fradulently obtain money, goods or services) is becoming a problem. It's very important to learn how to protect yourself from this crime that can ruin your credit rating and cause problems for years.

Contractor Licensing: To determine if your building contractor is properly licensed, you should call the Construction Industry Licensing Board at 1-800-342-7940. They can also provide information on how to file a complaint against the contractor.

Attorney General/Consumer Litigation: If you believe you have been a victim of false advertising, bait and switch, or deceptive and unfair business practices, you may want to contact the Economic Crimes Division of the Attorney General’s Office at (407) 245-0833.

Division of Consumer Services: To determine whether there have been any consumer complaints filed against a business, call the Division of Consumer Services at 1-800-435-7352. They are the State’s clearinghouse for consumer complaints.

Florida Bar: If you need information about the practice of law, contact the Florida Bar at 1-850-561-5839. If you desire to file a complaint about an attorney, contact their Orlando office at (407) 425-5424.

Florida Statutes: Laws of the State of Florida are available on-line and in your local library and courthouse law library.
