Sex Crimes

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Unit is a specialized felony prosecution division within the State Attorney’s Office. Within this division there is a Division Chief, an experienced attorney who performs the intake function, and experienced felony attorneys who specialize in the prosecution of child and adult sex crime cases.  The prosecutor who will prosecute the sex crimes case is introduced to the victim during the intake phase if at all possible and participates in meetings with the victim from that point on.

This division also includes an experienced attorney who handles Jimmy Ryce sexual predator commitment cases, where civil proceedings are held to hold certain sex offenders in involuntary confinement beyond expiration of their criminal sentence.

Our Sexual Assault Victim Services (SAVS) unit, staffed by specialized victim advocates, assists victims through the criminal justice process and provides other services or referrals to crime victims.
