January 30, 2006 Operation Cease-Fire Response Team Walks Cocoa Site of Murder; Distributes Rap CD's

Members of the State Attorney's Office Operation Cease-Fire Response Team and Cocoa police officers will be walking Friday afternoon at about 2 p.m. in an area where a 46-year-old woman was murdered earlier this week.

The purpose of Operation Cease-Fire's Response Team is to let residents know that violent gun crimes may be prosecuted in the federal system. State Attorney Norm Wolfinger's effort to protect the communities of Brevard County from violent gun incidents hinges on swift, strong prosecution in either the federal or state system for anyone arrested on those types of crimes.

While the team will be distributing flyers and directing residents who have information on the slaying to contact Cocoa Police, they will also be handing out the State Attorney's "Rap Against Violence" CD which was released last night. The CD features 10 Central Florida rappers who penned original songs promoting gun violence prevention.

Downloadable versions of the songs on the CD are available on the office website.
