FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Jan. 24, 2012

Brevard Grand Jury Indicts

In 2006 Murder of Darice Knowles

The Brevard County Grand Jury returned a first-degree premeditated murder indictment today against Vahtiece Kirkman, 33, originally from Cocoa, for the March 17, 2006 murder of Darice Knowles.

The indictment came after DNA confirmation that remains unearthed in July 2010 off State Road 524 west of Cocoa were those of Ms. Knowles, said Assistant State Attorney Michael Hunt who presented the case to the Grand Jury.

Kirkman, who is serving a federal prison term and has been sentenced to life in state prison for another Brevard County murder, will be returned to Brevard at an as yet undetermined time for a first appearance on the charge.

The Grand Jury heard from a Cocoa Police Detective and a civilian witness before returning the indictment.
