Brevard Grand Jury Issues First-degree  Premeditated Murder Indictment 

The Brevard Grand Jury returned a first-degree premeditated murder indictment against Donte Gemal Nealy, 34, for the shooting death of Jeremiah Odom, 27, in the early morning hours of May 11 on Sunflower Drive in Port St. John.

The Grand Jury also indicted Nealy, who was staying at a home on the street where the shooting occurred, on an additional charge of attempted first-degree premeditated murder for wounding John Dodson, who was 19 at the time. Nealy was arrested by Brevard deputy sheriff’s when he surrendered to them at the jail later in the evening on May 11 after learning they had obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Assistant State Attorney Michael Hunt, who presented the facts and evidence of the case to the Grand Jury, said the group heard testimony from a Brevard Sheriff’s Office crime scene investigator, a Brevard Sheriff’s Office Case Agent, and four lay witnesses.

Nealy remains in the Brevard County jail where he is being held without bond. He is scheduled for a first appearance on the revised charges on June 6, but interested persons should confirm those facts with jail officials.
