April 8, 2014 State Attorney Phil Archer honored victim advocates, law enforcement workers, and others for their efforts on behalf of crime victims on Tuesday

State Attorney Phil Archer honored victim advocates, law enforcement workers, and others for their efforts on behalf of crime victims on Tuesday with an awards ceremony and brunch at the Holiday Inn in Viera. It was the 30th annual observation of the National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
 
Thomas Gillan, director of the Criminal Justice Office of the Catholic Charities of Central Florida, was the speaker for the event. He is an expert in crisis management, law enforcement training, and stress and trauma management.
 
 
Archer recognized three key members of his staff for their interactions with crime victim. Assistant State Attorney William Scheiner was named the Norman R. Wolfinger Attorney of the Year; Laura Mutter received the Outstanding Service Award; and Jennifer Mench was honored with the Kathy L. King Victim Advocate of the Year Award.
 
Brevard County Sheriff's Agent Jessie Holton and his therapy dog Primus were recognized as the Law Enforcement Officers of the Year. Brevard County Health Dept. Nurse Stephanie Hill received the  Outstanding Service Award and Michele Williams with the Cocoa Police Department was named the Victim Advocate of the Year.
 
Archer thanked all of the legion of workers who daily strive to prevent crime and then, when crime does occur, work with the victims to ease their suffering.
 
"We are truly blessed to have such good people doing great things in our community.  A big thanks to all of our winners and to all of the individuals that carry out services to crime victims each and every day," Archer said.
