April 22, 2014 Brevard Grand Jury Issues First-degree Murder Indictment in Cocoa March 25 Shooting

The Brevard County Grand Jury issued a first-degree premeditated murder indictment today (April 22)charging a 17-year-old from Cocoa with the March 25 shooting death of Lavonte Ingram, 20, also of Cocoa.

Jaquan Raheim Oquendo, 17, was also indicted on charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a delinquent. He was arrested by Brevard County Sheriff's officers on March 28 and has been held at the Brevard County Juvenile Center since then.

Ingram was shot as a crowd milled about in a parking lot at Lakeview Park on Lakeview Boulevard in West Cocoa. The Grand Jury heard testimony from the Brevard County Medical Examiner, a Brevard County Sheriff's Office crime scene investigator and agent, and five lay witnesses before returning the indictment, said Assistant State Attorney Michael Hunt.

Hunt said Oquendo should be transferred to the adult detention facility and go before a judge tomorrow (April 23) at the jail during Initial Proceedings. Interested individuals should check the jail first appearance schedule for confirmation.
