May 20, 2014 Brevard Grand Jury Issues First-Degree Murder Indictment in Suntree-Area Death

The Brevard County Grand Jury issued a first-degree premeditated murder indictment today (May 20, 2014) against John Dwyer, 53, Melbourne, for the April 30 strangulation death of Joan Meta Justis.

Brevard deputy sheriffs found Justis dead in a room she and Dwyer shared in a Wickham Road apartment complex. Dwyer was staying nearby in a hotel where he was arrested the morning after Justis’ body was discovered.

The grand jury heard testimony from a Brevard County Sheriff’s agent, a sheriff’s crime scene investigator, and the Brevard County Medical Examiner before issuing the indictment, said Assistant State Attorney Michael Hunt. Dwyer has been held at the Brevard County Jail without bond since his arrest and is scheduled for a first appearance on the formal charge on Wednesday at the jail.
