Brevard Grand Jury Issues Indictment in Cocoa Murder

The Brevard County Grand Jury issued a first-degree murder indictment on Tuesday, Aug. 5, charging a 28-year old Cocoa man, Dontavius Olajuwon Grimes, with the July 9 shooting death of Robert Price, 25. The two men were acquaintances, but the source of their dispute is unknown, said Assistant State Attorney Michael Hunt.

Price was sitting outside a residence in Cocoa where he had been visiting when Grimes pulled up along with a second unnamed individual. They got out of the car, firing multiple times at the younger man.

The Grand Jury heard testimony from a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office crime scene investigator, a Cocoa Police Department detective, and three lay witnesses before beginning their deliberations.

Grimes has been held at the Brevard County Jail since his arrest on July 14. He is scheduled for a first appearance on the indictment this afternoon (Aug. 6).
