FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Oct. 29, 2014
State Attorney’s Office Workers
Make a BIG Difference Day Activity
A team from State Attorney Phil Archer’s office composed of prosecutors, victim advocates, support staff, and families of all the above gave a Rockledge home of two senior citizens a total facelift during the annual USA WEEKEND Make a Difference Day Saturday.
The SAO team cleared out an overgrown backyard, cleaned outside surfaces, removed a broken and unused above-ground pool , cut down overhanging tree limbs, installed a storm door, made minor repairs and painted roof eaves, hauled trash, put in a new mailbox, and performed weeding, raking, planting, mulching, and beautification on the yard. They also hung new curtains in the front room, presented the residents with a Welcome mat, a new patio table, and a basket of household necessities!
Broken windows were repaired as part of the project by Coastal Windows, Inc. (www.coastalwindowsinc.com), and Brevard County TRIAD, a consortium of law enforcement and seniors that works to reduce crime, provided funding for the supplies used in the yard work and other repairs. Two local businesses, Chick-Fil-A and Viera Pizza, provided lunch for the workers.
At the end of the day, the home looked like it had experienced a facelift, shedding 20 years off its age. The improvements not only helped the look of the house but also made it safer and more enjoyable for the senior residents. The event was organized by Megan Warren, chair of State Attorney Phil Archer’s Community Outreach Committee, along with fellow volunteer and SAO employee Judy Bushey.
