May 19, 2015 Brevard Grand Jury Indicts Amber Maltese for First-degree Murder of her Father

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – May 19, 2015

The Brevard County Grand Jury returned an indictment today (May 15) charging Amber Maltese, 37, with first-degree premeditated murder in the late February death of her father, Alfred G. Megathlin, 60. The two shared a home at 2334 Golf Lake Circle, Unit 411, Melbourne.

Assistant State Attorney Michael Hunt presented the case to the Grand Jury, which heard from two witnesses, the Brevard County Medical Examiner and a Melbourne Police Department detective, before returning the charge.

Maltese has been held in jail since her arrest on February 28 by Indian River deputies. She was driving erratically on Eau Gallie Boulevard when she came to the attention of Melbourne police officers. She rammed their patrol car with her vehicle and pushed them off the road before leading several law enforcement agencies on a high-speed chase down I-95 into Indian River County where she was finally stopped.

She was brought to the Brevard County Jail in March where she was subsequently arrested for the murder of her father. Maltese is scheduled for a first appearance at the jail tomorrow (May 20).
