Seminole County Grand Jury Returns Indictments
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – July 14, 2015
The Seminole County Grand Jury returned first-degree murder indictments today (July 14, 2015) in two separate cases.
In the first case the grand jurors considered, they returned a First-degree Premeditated Murder charge against Michael Ross Friedman, 63, Delray Beach, for the June 24 shooting death of James McCarthy, in a home at 617 Osage Court, Winter Springs. Friedman was also indicted on charges of Attempted First-degree Premeditated Murder of Joann Friedman, 49, and burglary of dwelling with an assault or battery.
Friedman was arrested on June 26 in Citrus County and brought to the Seminole County jail where he has been held without bond.
Grand jurors heard testimony from a detective with the Winter Springs Police Department before returning the indictment, said Chief Assistant State Attorney Stacey Salmons. Salmons presented the case to the grand jury.
In the second case, three Sanford men were indicted for First-degree Felony Murder while wearing masks in connection with the Feb. 23 shooting death of 49-year-old Jerald Michael Todd. Todd’s body was discovered during the early morning hours in the street outside 1017 W. 12thStreet after residents reported hearing gunfire.
Dy’Quaries Kevon Jones, 18, Deveicon Antwon Burke, 27, and Gayland Charles Young, 29, were arrested on the charges on June 18 after an exhaustive investigation by the Sanford Police Department which was aided by community cooperation. The three defendants are being held without bond.
Assistant State Attorney Dan Faggard, who presented the second case to the grand jurors, said they heard testimony from the two co-Investigators from Sanford Police Department before returning with the charges.
