Brevard Grand Jury Issues First-degree Premeditated Murder Indictment Against Merritt Island Man
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE—Nov. 8, 2016 Brevard Grand Jury Issues First-degree Premeditated Murder Indictment Against Merritt Island Man The Brevard County Grand Jury issued a first-degree premeditated murder indictment today charging Regginald Jones, 34, Merritt Island, with the Oct. 16 shooting death of 36-year old Samuel Sweeting. The attack took place outside of apartments on Jordan Road in Merritt Island. The grand jury also charged Jones with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, said Assistant State Attorney Michael Hunt who presented the case to the grand jurors today (Nov. 8). The grand jurors heard testimony from a Brevard County Sheriff’s office crime scene investigator and homicide agent and a lay witness before they returned the formal charges. Assistant State Attorney Hunt said that Jones, the defendant, has not been apprehended despite an active arrest warrant issued October 18. Hunt urged anyone who knows of his location to contact the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
