This morning, Ryan Logan 24, entered a guilty plea to all of his pending cases in front of Judge David Dugan who sentenced him to 10 years and one day in the Department of Corrections, followed by 5 years of supervised probation.
Logan, a previously convicted felon, was arrested by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office after a weeks-long October 2016 crime spree that targeted elderly victims in the Barefoot Bay area. Charged with Attempted Robbery, Battery, Burglary, Grand Theft, Theft from Person over 65, Organized Fraud, Forgery, and Dealing in Stolen Property Logan accepted responsibility for all his crimes by entering today’s plea.
Assistant State Attorney Justin Keen who prosecuted the case, said that Logan’s prior history qualified him for enhanced sentencing with limited gain time as a habitual felony offender and was ordered to pay restitution to the victims.
Logan’s crimes included asking an elderly man for a ride and then attempting to take both his car and valuables. He also convinced another elderly victim to loan him his golf cart to clear storm debris and sold it to a pawn shop. Logan also targeted three victims by posing as an employee of their lawn service to collect the monthly service fees.
State Attorney Phil Archer issued a statement saying that this case is an example of how hard both law enforcement and prosecutors are working to protect our community from crime that targets the elderly.
“We are committed to holding persons who victimize our elder residents accountable for their actions,” Archer said. “There is no tolerance for these crimes, especially when the offender targets our most vulnerable citizens.”
Ryan will be held in the Brevard County Jail until his transfer to the Florida Department of Corrections to begin serving his sentence.
