- Seminole Grand Jury Issues Indictment in Longwood Roadway Murder
Yesterday, (Sept 11) the Seminole County Grand Jury indicted YANNIEL VILLEGAS-LOPEZ(17) for one count of First Degree Felony Murder (LF), and Robbery with a Firearm (LF) in the shooting death of Richard Javier (35) on July 14th, 2018 in Longwood, FL.
On that date, Richard Javier was involved in the attempted sale of cocaine with his associate ANTHONY GONZALEZ (51), outside a business located on SR 434 in Longwood. VILLEGAS-LOPEZ initially posed as a buyer, but then attempted to steal the drugs using a firearm. Shots were exchanged, resulting in Javier being fatally wounded and crashing his vehicle while trying to get to the hospital. Longwood Police later identified and arrested VILLEGAS-LOPEZ as a person who shot at Javier. GONZALEZ was also arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Felony Murder and Trafficking in Cocaine.
The Grand Jury heard testimony from a Longwood Police Criminal Investigator before returning with the indictment. VILLEGAS-LOPEZ a juvenile, remains in custody on No Bond and will have his initial appearance after he transfers to the adult facility at the Seminole County Jail. The date and time of that transfer was not announced.
