Operation Cease-Fire Response Team Working in Melbourne, Cocoa Areas
A team of Brevard County State Attorney's Office Investigators, Assistant State Attorneys, Melbourne police, and citizens are conducting an Operation Cease-Fire Response Team walk through the area where a Melbourne man was seriously wounded by gunfire early Monday morning.
The walk through the covina Way neighborhood began at 1:00 p.m. and is expected to conclude by 3:00 p.m. Participants are passing out flyers reminding the community that under Operation Cease-Fire, gun crimes may be prosecuted in the federal system and could result in significant prison time and conviction within months of an arrest. They are also ensuring residents know how to reach the appropriate authorities to report any gun violence in the area.
The representatives of the Brevard State Attorney's Office will also be giving out Rap Against Violence CD's. The songs on the CD are performed by Central Florida aspiring artists and all carry a gun crime prevention message.
Another Operation Cease-Fire Response Team is planned for the Cocoa area where Willie Parker III was shot and killed Tuesday night. State Attorney Phil Archer will be leading that team and a time will be announced later.
