- Second Plea Entered in 2017 Wolfy's Restaurant Attempted Murder and Robbery
Today (July 11), Alfredo RIVAS (35) plead No Contest to the Court for one (1) count of Burglary of a Structure with Battery (LF), one (1) count of Attempted First Degree Premeditated Murder (LF), and one (1) count of Attempted Robbery with a Deadly Weapon (F2) for his role in the 2017 incident at then Wolfy's Restaurant, 520 N. Palmetto Avenue, Sanford, FL.
On August 13, 2017 at 7:19 am, Larry Picardat, manager of Wolfy's, called 9-11 and reported that he had been stabbed when two men entered the business to commit a robbery. Sanford police investigated, and using witness interviews and surveillance video, identified two suspects, Guy HUGHES and a former Wolfy's employee, ALFREDO RIVAS (35). During questioning RIVAS identified HUGHES, describing their roles in the crime to Sanford Police.
Judge Marlene Alva accepted the plea and adjudicated RIVAS guilty on all counts, sentencing him to 26 years in the Department of Corrections for both the Burglary and Attempted First Degree Murder; and 15 years for the Attempted Robbery (served concurrently). Additional penalties include $5,000 in restitution to the victim, $5000 restitution to Victim's Crime Compensation and related investigative/court costs.
On March 6, 2019 HUGHES was sentenced for his role in the crimes to 21 years in the Department of Corrections for both the Burglary and Attempted First Degree Murder; and 15 years for the Attempted Robbery (served concurrently).
RIVAS remains in custody at the Seminole County Jail pending his transfer to the Department of Corrections.
