September 18, 2019 Nelson LARREGUI IRIZARRY Enters Guilty Plea in Lake Mary Drug Delivery Murder

Today (Sept 18) Nelson Javier LARREGUI-IRIZARRY (29) entered a plea of guilty to Second Degree Murder (F1 PBL); Sale of Heroin (F2); and Attempted Sale of a Controlled Substance (F3) in connection with the death of Edward Mitschele Jr (28). After accepting the plea, Judge Debra Nelson sentenced LARREGUI-IRIZARRY to (7) years DOC, followed by (5) years of supervised probation for counts 1 and 2, and 699 days DOC (time served) on count 3. The sentences are to be served concurrently.

On October 18, 2017, Mitschele was found deceased in his Lake Mary home as a result of a Heroin and Fentanyl overdose. A subsequent investigation by Seminole County Sheriff's Deputies identified the suspected source of the drugs that caused Mitschele's death. An undercover operation resulted in a meeting to purchase heroin from LARREGUI-IRIZARRY, however he ran from deputies, tossing heroin from his pocket before being captured and arrested. Then on January 9, 2018, a Seminole County Grand Jury indicted LARREGUI-IRIZARRY for First-degree Murder Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance.

LARREGUI-IRIZARRY agreed to accept responsibility for the death of Mitschele Jr. by offering to plead guilty to Second Degree Murder. Prosecutors met with Mitschele family members and our law enforcement partners to obtain their input prior to reaching a resolution in this case. This plea represents their desire, and ours, for justice on behalf of Edward Mitschele Jr.
It's also part of the continuing effort by our office and Seminole County Law Enforcement, to arrest and prosecute criminal drug dealers whose illegal trade has resulted in the overdose deaths of so many people in our community.
