October 8, 2019 Seminole Grand Jury Indicts Anthony REVELS for First Degree Felony Murder

Today (Oct 8), the Seminole County Grand Jury issued an indictment charging Anthony REVELS (51) with First Degree Felony Murder (CF) in connection with the stabbing death of Mavrick Johnson (29). REVELS was also indicted for one count each of Robbery with a Deadly Weapon (F1 PBL), Tampering with Physical Evidence (F3), and Burglary to a Conveyance (F3).

On September 14, 2019 at 2:25 am, Johnson's body was found inside his car in a ditch at the intersection of Kentucky Street and Jesup Avenue, in unincorporated Sanford. Deputies observed that Johnson had sustained multiple stab wounds and a laceration to his throat.

An investigation found that in the hours before his death, Johnson had been selling drugs from his car in the Sanford area. At around 2:00 am, Johnson met with REVELS at his home on Jesup Avenue, to sell $60 in crack cocaine. When REVELS tried to steal the cocaine, the two fought and REVELS cut and stabbed Johnson repeatedly. REVELS loaded the body into Johnson's car, and then drove it a short distance to the ditch where it was later found. When investigators questioned REVELS, he claimed to have bought drugs from Johnson who left without incident. However, deputies observed injuries on REVELS arms, and found bloody hair and Johnson's bracelet in REVELS driveway. A search warrant for the home recovered Johnson's bloody shoes inside, along with Johnson's blood in the bathroom, and on REVELS clothing. An arrest warrant for Johnson's murder was served on REVELS September 15, 2019.

Before issuing today's indictment, the Grand Jury heard testimony from the lead Seminole County Sheriff's Office Investigator. REVELS will remain in custody on NO BOND, and his next scheduled court appearance is tomorrow (Oct 9), at 1:30 pm at the Seminole County Jail.
