March 9, 2020 Jorge MONTANEZ Sentenced In 2018 Burglary and Attempted Robbery

Today (Mar 9), Circuit Judge Debra Nelson sentenced Jorge MONTANEZ (19) to 20 years in the Department of Corrections, followed by 5 years of supervised probation, after being convicted by a Seminole County Jury of Burglary to a Dwelling with Assault or Battery (LF), and Attempted Robbery While Discharging a Firearm (F2) on February 6, 2020.

On May 12, 2018, shortly after midnight, Altamonte Springs Police responded to shots fired at 263 Rose Petal Place off Northlake Blvd in their city. Officers were told that two men had broken into the home, attempted to rob the occupants, and fired shots at the residence while fleeing. A vehicle with two males matching the description provided by the victims, was seen nearby and led officers on a high speed chase into Casselberry. Stop sticks were used to disable the vehicle, and once stopped, the driver Angel SANTIAGO DELGADO (32) fled on foot but was captured soon after. The passenger (MONTANEZ) stayed with the car and was taken into custody immediately.

Both defendants were held on no bond since their arrest. SANTIAGO DELGADO remains in custody awaiting trial for Burglary of a Dwelling with Assault or Battery (LF), Attempted Robbery with a Firearm (F2), plus High Speed Fleeing or Attempting to Elude (F2), and Resisting an Officer Without Violence (M1).

MONTANEZ, who was 17 at the time of the incident, was initially held as a juvenile but later charged and sentenced as an adult. He will now be transferred to the Department of Corrections to begin serving his sentence.

No trial date has been set for SANTIAGO DELGADO, however his case is scheduled for Docket Review on March 11, 2020, at 9:00 am before Judge Nelson.
