- Brevard Grand Jury Indicts Four in Cocoa Beach Attempted Robbery and Murder
Yesterday (Oct 27), the Brevard County Grand Jury indicted Lonnie ROBINSON JR (24), James BYERS III (27), Kaelea WELLINGTON (24), and Andrew SHEPPARD III (35) for First-Degree Felony Murder with Firearm (CF), and Attempted Armed Robbery with Firearm Inflicting Death (F2), in connection with the November 12, 2019, murder of Shawn McGraw (46).
On November 12, 2019, Cocoa Beach Police discovered an unresponsive McGraw suffering from a gunshot wound in a room at the Fawlty Towers Motel. He later died at a local hospital, and the medical examiner ruled the death a homicide. WELLINGTON initially identified herself as a witness to an attempted robbery and shooting of McGraw by unknown persons, but a subsequent months long investigation identified her, ROBINSON, BYERS, and SHEPPARD as the persons who committed the murder. ROBINSON, BYERS, WELLINGTON were arrested on October 15, 2020, and SHEPPARD was arrested on October 23, 2020, and held without bond. The Grand Jury heard testimony from a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office crime scene investigator, a Cocoa Beach Police Investigator, and three lay witnesses before returning the indictment.
ROBINSON, BYERS, WELLINGTON, and SHEPPARD remain in custody at the Brevard County Jail on No Bond, and no trial date has been set in this case.
Please consult the Brevard Clerk of Courts website for updates on future court appearances by these defendants.
