- Brevard Grand Jury Indicts Three Defendants for First-Degree Murder
Today (July 28), the Brevard County Grand Jury issued murder indictments for three defendants in two separate incidents.
Anthony BARRON (38), was indicted for First-Degree Premeditated Murder (CF), in connection with the strangulation death of Nicole Yates (42), at the couple's home on Delaware Drive in Melbourne on May 8th, 2021. BARRON called 9-11 to report he found Yates unconscious in the front yard, possibly suffering from a reaction to medication. She was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead, with the Medical Examiner ruling the death a homicide. Evidence and witness testimony lead Melbourne Police to establish that BARRON had strangled Yates during a domestic argument.
Joshua MANNS (25), and Erica DOTSON (27) were indicted for First-Degree Felony Murder (CF), Aggravated Child Abuse (F1), Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child (F1), and Child Abuse (F3) in connection to the death of 3-year old Nance Jameson, at their Lago Circle apartment in West Melbourne, June 11, 2021. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide, stating the child had suffered multiple inflicted injuries over time that ultimately resulted in death. After a weeks-long investigation, West Melbourne Police discovered evidence that both MANNS and DOTSON physically abused the child, attempted to conceal the abuse, and neglected to seek immediate medical treatment for his injuries.
The Grand Jury heard testimony from Melbourne and West Melbourne Investigators, and the Brevard Medical Examiner before returning with the indictments.
BARRON, MANNS, and DOTSON are all being held on No Bond at the Brevard County Jail and no trial date has been set in either case. Please consult the Brevard Clerk of Courts website for updates on future court appearances by these defendants.
