November 15, 2021 - Wildalson JOSEPH Sentenced to 5 Years For Attack on Co-Worker

Monday (Oct 25), Circuit Judge Lisa Davidson sentenced Wildalson JOSEPH (35), to five (5) years in state prison after a Brevard Jury convicted him on one (1) count of Felony Battery (F3). Judge Davidson also gave JOSEPH credit for 190 days already served.

In a trial that lasted three (3) days, Assistant State Attorneys Mark Campbell and Nicole Hosey presented evidence to the jury who deliberated just over 30 minutes before returning with the guilty verdict.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office reported that on January 11, 2020, just before 5:00 pm they responded to 6846 Crooked Stick Drive in Melbourne, where they found Carlos Maldonado suffering from extensive injuries to his mouth, including three fractures to his jaw requiring hospitalization and surgery to repair. In speaking with JOSEPH, deputies learned the two were furniture movers and had gotten into a dispute over dividing a tip provided by a customer. JOSEPH hit Maldonado in the face, badly injuring him. When Maldonado tried to flee toward the customer's house, JOSEPH caught him, forcibly took the moving truck keys, and caused Maldonado to fall to the ground.

JOSEPH failed to appear at the first attempt to try the case in April of 2021, resulting in a warrant for his arrest and revocation of his bond. Once Joseph was taken into custody, the case was placed back on the trial docket.

Judge Davidson ordered a total of $1,157.50 in Court and other costs, but reserved jurisdiction to determine the amount of restitution that is due to Maldonado based on total losses that have yet to be determined.
