July 21, 2008 Brevard County Grand Indicts Darryl Robert Kenney and Jerod Allen Shepherd

The Brevard County Grand Jury issued two murder indictments today in two separate cases charging both defendants with first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm.

Darryl Robert Kenney, 22, is accused of killing his father, Gary Kenney, 50, at the family home at 765 Venetian Way, Merritt Island, on June 16. Kenney, who was staying at the Aladdin Motel on Merritt Island, was additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, armed burglary of a dwelling with a firearm and five counts of grand theft (firearm), said Assistant State Attorney Michael Hunt.

In the Kenney case, grand jurors heard testimony from a Brevard County Sheriff's Office crime scene investigator and a homicide agent.

Jerod Allen Shepherd, 35, 687 Grandview Way, Melbourne, who was charged with first-degree premeditated murder, was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for the June 9 slaying of Anthony Chapman. Shepherd was arrested June 14 by Melbourne Police who said the two men were involved in an altercation before Chapman, 38, was slain near Grandview and Victoria Ways in Melbourne.

In the Shepherd case, the grand jurors heard testimony from a Melbourne Police Department crime scene investigator and a detective and two lay witnesses before returning the indictment.

Both men are being held at the Brevard County jail where they are scheduled to make first appearances on the charges tomorrow.
