August 11, 2022 - State Files Notice to Seek Death Penalty for Juan BRAVO-TORRES

On Wednesday (Aug 10), the State filed a Notice of Intent to Seek the Death Penalty for Juan BRAVO-TORRES (39), in the First-Degree Premeditated Murder (CF) of Eva Bravo-Herrera (3) at his home on Highland Street in Longwood on July 21, 2022.

BRAVO-TORRES was indicted for First-Degree Premeditated Murder (CF), and Attempted First-Degree Murder (LF) in connection to the death of Eva Bravo-Herrera (3), and the attempted murder of a 12-year old on August 9, 2022.

An investigation by Longwood Police established that BRAVO-TORRES using a knife, had attacked both Eva and the second child in the residence. The 12-year old was critically wounded but able to flee, running to a nearby restaurant where her mother worked. Officers gained entrance to the home and found Eva deceased, and BRAVO-TORRES suffering from multiple self-inflicted stab wounds. BRAVO-TORRES was hospitalized for his injuries and later arrested.

In their notice, prosecutors described the murder as "especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel" and was committed in a "cold, calculated, and premeditated manner without any pretense of moral or legal justification". They also cited provisions indicating that BRAVO-TORRES had attempted to murder the second 12 year-old victim serving as an additional aggravating factor in seeking the death penalty.

BRAVO-TORRES will remain in custody with NO BOND at the Seminole County Jail.  Please consult the Seminole Clerk of Courts website for updates on future court appearances by this defendant.
