August 12, 2022 - State Charges Defendants Donald CORSI and Howard HUGHES

On Friday (Aug 11), prosecutors filed Informations charging Donald CORSI (52) with Throwing a Missile into a Vehicle (F2), and Felony Criminal Mischief (F3), and Howard HUGHES (61) with Felony Criminal Mischief (F3), and Battery (M1) after a confrontation and attack on two teenagers in unincorporated Sanford on June 6, 2022.

Victims Jermaine Jones (16), and Bailey Kennedy (15), reported to Seminole County Sheriff's Deputies that CORSI and HUGHES had confronted them on Maple Glen Place while driving in a car through the subdivision. The teens reported being assaulted by both men with CORSI throwing a large rock into the car window, and HUGHES using a traffic cone to dent the door.

Deputies arrested both CORSI and HUGHES at the scene and assigned investigators who later provided the detailed findings of their inquiry to prosecutors. At issue were allegations that the defendants had acted with racial bias and that a firearm may have been present during the incident.

After carefully reviewing the evidence and information presented, prosecutors determined that while a concerning statement may have been made by a spectator/witness, there was no evidence to prove that either CORSI or HUGHES were racially motivated in their actions. Additionally a spectator/witness thought by the victims to have had a concealed firearm was identified, but denied the allegation and no firearm was found during a subsequent search.

No trial date has been set in either case and both defendants remain out of custody on bond. Please refer to the Seminole Clerk of Courts website for information on future court appearances by these defendants.
