- State Attorney Announces Decision in F.I.T. Use of Force Death - Alhaji Sow
Today (Aug 23), State Attorney Phil Archer released a four-page statement (below) outlining his decision not to file criminal charges for the use of deadly force by a Melbourne Police Officer and Florida Institute of Technology Security Officer that resulted in the death of Alhaji Sow (18), on December 3, 2021.
State Attorney Archer detailed how the evidence and testimony provided by the FDLE held sufficient evidence to believe that the officers were acting in self-defense, a legal justification for the use of deadly force. To provide immediate access to materials that supported these findings the FDLE investigative summary is available for download below.
Per Florida Statue 119.105 body worn camera recordings are confidential and exempt from public disclosure if the recording was taken inside a private residence. As a result, the available public record recording does not include the actual use of deadly force in this incident.
