January 17, 2023 - Grand Jury Indicts Carlos JONES II for First-Degree Premeditated Murder

Today (Jan 17), a Brevard Grand Jury Indicted Carlos JONES II (23), for First-Degree Premeditated Murder (CF), in connection to the death of Sha'Dayla Johnson (23). The State will have 45 days to decide if they will seek the death penalty for JONES.
 
On December 20, 2022, at 7:48 am, Melbourne Police responded to a 9-11 call of a gunshot victim at 2827 Colbert Circle. Upon arrival officers found Johnson unresponsive in the carport of her home with multiple gunshot wounds. Johnson was transported to the hospital where she where she later died. Witnesses indicated that her former live-in boyfriend JONES, had been seen at the residence when the shooting took place.
 
At 11:00 am, Palm Bay Police reported that JONES entered their lobby and surrendered. When questioned by investigators, JONES admitted his involvement in shooting Johnson after a dispute over not responding to his phone calls or text messages. JONES was arrested and held on No Bond at the Brevard County Jail.
 
The Grand Jury heard testimony from the Brevard Medical Examiner, a Melbourne Police detective and crime scene investigator before returning with the indictment.
