August 18, 2023 - Jackalynn D'AURIA Sentenced to 30 Years for Killing Mother

Thursday (Aug 17), Circuit Judge Charles Crawford sentenced Jackalynn D'ARURIA (22), to thirty (30) years in prison, after she was convicted by a Brevard County Jury on July 7, 2023, of Manslaughter with a Deadly Weapon (F1), in connection to the brutal stabbing death of her mother, Amanda Ervin (36). Crawford credited D'AURIA with 1028 days for time already served, and ordered her transferred to the Department of Corrections to begin serving her sentence.

In a six day trial with evidence presented by Assistant State Attorney Samantha Barrett, a jury found D'AURIA guilty of Manslaughter with a Deadly Weapon, despite her testimony that she acted in self-defense. They however acquitted her of Second Degree Murder with a Deadly Weapon, avoiding a potential life sentence.

In a statement after the sentencing, ASA Barrett thanked the jury for holding D'AURIA responsible for her crimes, and Judge Crawford for protecting the community by imposing the maximum sentence. Barrett added, "I'm grateful we were able to deliver justice on behalf of Amanda and her family. I hope they can find some solace in knowing that D'AURIA couldn't escape justice, and that every word spoken on behalf of Amanda was heard."

On October 24, 2020, Palm Bay Police responded to a home on Canal Lane, where they found Ervin deceased from multiple stab wounds. The subsequent investigation identified D'AURIA, Ervin's recently reconciled daughter, as her killer. The attack is thought to have occurred during a confrontation over D'AURIA's relationship with one of Ervin's friends. D'AURIA fled the scene but was arrested that same day while attempting to disguise herself and flee the area. D'AURIA had been in custody on no bond since her arrest.
