- Isiah MCKINNON Sentenced to 5 Years DOC for Illegal Firearm Possession
On Monday (Oct 9), Circuit Judge Donna Goerner sentenced Isiah MCKINNON (37) to five years in state prison after a Seminole County Jury convicted him on August 8, 2023, for Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon (F2), and Carrying a Concealed Firearm (F3), stemming from an incident in 2022.
In a two-day trial with evidence presented by Assistant State Attorney Anna Valentini, the jury deliberated just over two (2) hours before returning with the guilty as charged verdicts. Facing a minimum sentence of 36 months, Judge Goerner imposed a five-year sentence on each count (served concurrently) and adjudicated MCKINNON a Habitual Felony Offender. MCKINNON was credited with 385 days for time served.
On June 1, 2022, at 2:30 am, Sanford Police approached a group of persons found inside a closed McKibbon Park on W. 25th Street. Extra patrols had been ordered for the park based on complaints of after hour criminal activity. Drug residue was found where the group had been seated, and after a pat down MCKINNON was found to have a loaded concealed firearm in his possession. With several prior felony convictions, MCKINNON was arrested.
After the sentencing State Attorney Phil Archer said, "Prosecutors will continue to aggressively seek convictions and the maximum penalty allowed, for anyone who places our community at risk by illegally possessing or using a firearm."
MCKINNON was remanded into custody at the Seminole County Jail and will be transferred to the Department of Corrections to begin serving his sentence.
